Some people collect stamps, some cars...me? Lipsticks. So when it comes to the Rolls Royce, the Mac Daddy of the lipstick world it seemed only natural that I had to "catch 'em all". Encased in a heavyweight gold packaging, the Rouge Volupte formula from Yves Saint-Laurent is incredibly creamy, and glides across your lips - those with smaller lips may find that using a lip liner may keep feathering at bay. With them being so creamy, this does however mean they don't last anywhere near as long as a matte, so re-application is needed a lot more often - which I guess considering the price tag is £23.50 is an annoyance.
Pigmentation is stunning. Neutrals provide a 'pop' of colour, whereas the brighter shades are bold but not brash - I apply the brighter colours with a lip brush. The colours I have are in number order:
N.01 Nude Beige, N.08 Fetish Pink, N.10 Provocative Pink
N.14 Orange Shiver, N.17 Red Muse, N.30 Faubourg Peach
N.01 Nude Beige
a neutral beige that would work with most skintones
N.08 Fetish Pink
mid-toned bubblegum pink
N.10 Provocative Pink
a bright fuchsia pink that would look great on tanned skintones
N.14 Orange Shiver
leaning more towards a coral than an orange
N.17 Red Muse
blue based "universal" red
N.30 Faubourg Peach
my favourite; a nude creamy peach
Conclusion: YSL Rouge Volupte are great for those who are looking for a high-end lipstick that looks great inside and out. Staying power isn't amazing, but the formula effortlessly glides on your lips and provides a great coverage. The most similar formula's I can think of are MAC's Cremesheen and Boots 17 Makeup Shine On Lipstick for more budget friendly options, but they aren't in the same league as these bad boys!
